The LAUVICOM Group, Inc. is a Liberian-owned company based in Monrovia. It was founded
by Emmanuel E. W. Jones, Jr. in 1980 as LAUVICOM Associates Inc. and provided electrical
engineering and energy consulting services. Jones was a pioneer in creating the
electricity sectors in Liberia and served in many technical and managerial positions
at the Liberia Electricity Corporation, including serving as Chairman of the Board
in 1993. For nearly a decade, until the start of the civil war in Liberia in 1990,
LAUVICOM Associates Inc worked on major electrical engineering projects and influenced
energy policies in Liberia. Its clients included – Firestone, USAID, Voice of America,
and the Embassy of Israel.
The Emmanuel E. W. Jones, Jr. Electrical Engineering Foundation
was established in 2004,in honor of his strong commitment to capacity building
as the basis of sustainability in the energy sector in Liberia
In 2005, following successful democratic elections inspired by these words of their
late father, from a speech he gave at the Tabor100 in Seattle, WA, USA:
“We can
no longer continue make excuses about whose responsibility it is for the lack of
economic growth in Liberia and on the African continent as a whole. As the saying
goes: Excuses are tools of the incompetent used to build monuments to nothing. For
those who specialize in them shall never be good at anything else,”
his sons returned
to Liberia to help rebuild the nation, both through their domestic and international
activities. In May 2006, LAUVICOM Associates Inc. was reincorporated in Liberia
as the LAUVICOM Group Inc.
